About Lisa!

I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas. I earned my master’s degree in marriage and family therapy and my doctorate in counseling psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.

Much of my specialized training and research has been in the treatment of eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, and issues related to body image. For individuals struggling with anorexia and bulimia, the self image is greatly exaggerated and distorted - similar to looking in a fun house mirror. However, an eating disorder is not a prerequisite for body image disturbance. Many individuals struggle with this issue, particularly women. Western culture’s standard of beauty for women glorifies thinness and youth. It is a standard few women are able to attain naturally. Problems with body image can begin as early as childhood but times of transition that lead to bodily changes seem to be particularly difficult. Times of transition might include puberty, pregnancy and the presence of aging (wrinkles, sagging).

In addition to eating disorders and body image disturbance, I work with a variety of other issues that include depression, anxiety disorders and chronic pain. I was initially trained as a family systems therapist and I work with individuals and families on relational issues.

I work collaboratively with my clients to help them identify, appreciate and cultivate their strengths so they can utilize them in resolving their difficulties. I use a brief therapy approach to treatment, but the length of treatment depends on the nature of the problem and the needs of the client. Termination of treatment is determined by a mutual agreement between myself and the client. I work with individual adults, adolescents and families.
